Marlyn A. English, 92, of Russell, PA, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, at Kinzua Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Warren, PA. Marlyn was born September 20, 1931, in Warren, the third daughter of the late Allen L. Peterson and Tressa B. Warren Peterson. She was a 1949 graduate of Warren High School. She worked at New Process Company from 1949 to 1955, when she moved to Russell. She married Norman "Dale" English August 2, 1952, at the First Lutheran Church in Warren. He passed on July 19, 2011. Marlyn is survived by four sons, Norman "Michael" English and wife Jeanne of Lander, Gary Lee English and wife Sue, Randal H. English and wife Dawn, and Jeffrey D. English and wife Pam all of Russell; sister, Eveline Warchol of Erie; grandchildren, Joey (Kellie) Goldthwaite, Joann English, Olivia (Pat) Zapel, Gregory English, Mark English, Jason (Hannah) English, Kendra Snyder, Matt English, and Rachel (Teddy) Turfitt; many great and great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Marlyn is preceded in death by her husband, Norman; and sister, Dorathea M. (Peterson) Lucas on March 26, 2013. Marlyn will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, "neighborhood mother", and nurturer to many. She was a member of the Russell United Methodist Church. She served on the Wednesday Circle and several boards. She was an active member since 1959 of the Russell Fire Department Auxiliary. She worked on the Pine Grove Election board for 25 years until 2001. She helped with the Pine Grove Township Historical Bicentennial celebration and the 1995 Revision of the Pine Grove Township Historical Book. She was a record keeper for the Pine Grove Cemetery Veterans until 2019, recording over 800 veterans there. Many folks have received one of her "Burden Bears" given to special people for special reasons. As of 2019, over 2,000 bears have been given out. She also helped with Cub and Boy Scouts. Her family, friends, and community were very important to her. Friends will be received at Russell United Methodist Church, 17 N. Main St., Russell, PA, on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at which time a funeral service will be held with Jim Hunt, chaplain, Rouse Home, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
