Marie Kathryn Swanson Mathis, 92, of Water Street, Warren, and formerly of 118 Prospect Street, Warren, Pa., slipped gently into the arms of her Savior that she loved and served for many years on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Golden Living - Kinzua Valley.

Marie was born May 22, 1919, in Ludlow, the daughter of the late Robert and Anna Gustafson Swanson. She moved to Warren, Pa. in 1930. Marie attended Warren schools, graduating in 1937. She worked at NPC (Blair) for 10 years and baby-sat for 35 years. Marie was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Sunday school for over 40 years as a teacher. She was also the Primary Superintendent, and Secretary of the Worship and Music Communication, Sunday School Adult Bible Class, Cradle Roll Superintendent, and was in charge of the Acolytes.

She was an avid reader and knitter and was a member of a card club for over 55 years.

She is survived by her sister, Jo Anne Erickson, Urbana, IL; and her niece, Sharon Phillips, and her husband Gary of Warren; and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lavern Mathis, whom she married June 16, 1944 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, and who passed away January 9, 1996; and her daughter, Kay Marie Mathis, who passed away April 21, 1996.

Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Friday, March 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., and also for one hour prior to a funeral service on March 17, at 11 a.m., to be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 306 Conewango Ave., Warren, with Rev. Beth Costlow, Pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Gibbs Hill Cemetery.
