Marian E. Thompson, 95, of Lander, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Marian was born January 12, 1922, in Lander. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Lois (Cowles) Strong.
Marian was a graduate of Lander High School. In 1946, she and her late husband joined the Calvary Baptist Church, where she was involved with the women's organization, served as a Deaconess, and was in charge of the prayer chain for many years. Marian's passion was served in working with children. She had worked as a teacher with the Bible Club for over 40 years, serving many years as the program director. She enjoyed reading, knitting, her gardens and flowers, hummingbirds, and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by six children, Linda Combs, and husband, Paul, of Cadiz, OH, Richard Thompson, and wife, Jean, of Rock City, IL, Curt Thompson, and wife, Maureen, of Wausau, WI, Loanne Van Voorhis, and husband, Brent, of Kingston, TN, Lorraine Stiner, of Warren, and Steve Thompson, and wife, Debbie, of Lander; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death on October 15, 2008, by her husband of 68 years, John Walter Thompson; and one sister, Eleanor Ludwick.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren, on Monday, November 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., and at the Calvary Baptist Church, 445 Conewango Ave., Warren, on Tuesday, November 21, from 1 to 2 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be held there.
Burial will follow at Thompson Hill Cemetery, Lander, PA.
