Louis "Babe" Buvoltz, Jr., 89, of Robin Hill Road, Scandia, PA passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Rouse Home of Youngsville, PA. Babe was born February 7, 1924 in South Valley, NY, the son of the late Louis Buvoltz, Sr. and Daisey Kennison Buvoltz.
Babe served in the US Army, European Theatre of Operation during World War II. He was an expert marksman, having served in Patton's Third Army, fought seven major battles, and was discharged as a Corporal in the Military Police. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was then employed by Blackstone as a grinder for 28 years from which he retired. After retirement, Babe worked for Elk Township as a Road Foreman. He was also a farmer and a log cutter. Babe enjoyed music, and was a musician for 50 years, playing the banjo, the mandolin, and the fiddle. He was part of "The Moonlight Ramblers" and "Babe and the Hillbilly Three". An avid outdoorsman, Babe enjoyed hunting, and fishing at Chautauqua Lake and the Kinzua Reservoir.
He is survived by two children, Allen Buvoltz, and wife, Hildi, North Warren, and Julie Long, and husband, Shannon, Scandia; he is also survived by nine step-children; one brother, Harold Buvoltz, Fredonia, NY; 4 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family also wishes to recognize and thank Bill and Susie Long, longtime friends and caregivers.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruthy Mack Buvoltz ; a son, William Buvoltz; a daughter, Trudy Love. and a sister, Dorothy Abbey.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Thursday, August 29, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Neil Siefert, retired pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Scandia Cemetery, where Full Military Honors will be presented by members of the Sheffield and Clarendon VFW, and active duty Army personnel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Rouse Home, 701 Rouse Ave., Youngsville, PA 16371.
