Obituary


Lawrence Arthur Eller, 93, of Russell, PA, passed away on April 12, 2013 at Warren Manor.

Larry was born December 2, 1919, in Erie, PA, the son of the late Louis Eller Sr. and Florence Carr Eller. Born and raised in Erie, Larry attended Erie Schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served his country from 1939 to 1959, then served another ten years in the Naval Reserves. During his career in the Navy, Larry was aboard the Destroyer USS Zane at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked on December 7, 1941. He was barely one half mile from the main focus of the attack. He then served the remainder of the war in the Pacific Theatre. Larry is a member of  the Pearl Harbor Survivors of Pennsylvania and the Pearl Harbor Survivors of Erie, PA. Larry would often reminisce of the awful day when so many of his comrades lost their lives, and remembered it like it was yesterday.

Following his long and highly decorated military career, he returned to Erie and worked for Uni-Flo manufacturing, and then drove truck for the grape industry surrounding Erie.  Larry liked to travel, hunt, and especially enjoyed keeping a nice home and landscape, and caring for his automobiles.

He is survived by his wife, Marian V. Lindholm Eller, whom he married in 2001; four children,  Lawrence Eller, Jr. and his wife Marcia, Maryland Heights, MO,  Barbara Deegan, Kissimee, FL, Dennis Eller and his wife Dixie, Jerusalem, OH, and Bonnie Dressler and her husband Dennis, Hendersonville, TN;  five step children, Sandra Baum and her husband Eugene , Santa Barbara, CA, Frederick Johnson and his wife Jan, Bradenton, FL, Gregory Johnson and his wife Karlene, Seneca, PA, Bruce Johnson and his wife Maria, Scandia, PA, and  Cheryl Spittler and her husband Ed, Bradford, PA;  a brother Louis Eller, Erie, PA; several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Larry was  preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Lee Eller, and his sisters, Dorothy, Pearl and Lavina.

Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Monday, April 15, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the  First Church of the Nazarene, 907 Penna. Ave. E, Warren, PA, 16365, for one hour prior to a funeral service will be held there on Tuesday, April 16, at 12:00 noon,  with Rev. Dr. G. A. Hankins, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, PA.
