Kenneth C. Mathews, 61, of 21 Jackson St. N. Warren PA, died at the Hunter McGuire Veterans Medical Center, Richmond, VA, on Friday, October 11, 2002, at 6:47 p.m. following complications from a lung transplant.
Mr. Mathews was born December 15, 1940, in Bear Lake, PA, the son of the late Charles and Nevonne Jackson Mathews. He was a self-employed barber in N. Warren for 30 years, while serving as Post Master of the N. Warren post office for 25 years, and also was a Chapman State Park ranger for 20 years. He was a member of the Tiona United Methodist Church and served as a lay leader, and was active with its Golden Rulers class. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 – 1965. He was currently serving as Master of the Tiona Diamond Grange #2027, also secretary - treasurer of United Commercial Travelers, a North Warren Municiple Authority member, and was a past Conewango Twp. Supervisor serving for 8 years.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca J. Berdine Mathews whom he married on January 8, 1971 at N. Warren Presbyterian Church; one son: Jeffrey C. Mathews of Erie, PA; one daughter: Mrs. Brian (Laura C. ) Moose of Manssas, VA; one sister: Maxine J. Smith of Warren; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Beaumont.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 15 at 1:00 pm, at the N. Warren Presbyterian Church with Rev. Martin Reynolds, pastor of Tiona United Methodist Church officiating, and Rev. Burfoot Ward III, pastor of N. Warren Presbyterian Church, co-officiating.
Burial will be in the Warren County Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tiona United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 257, Tiona, PA 16352, Tiona Diamond Grange, or the Close to the Heart Support Group for Transplant Recipients at Warren General Hospital, c/o Debbie Sumner, 2 Crescent Park, Warren, PA.
