Obituary

Katherine Anne Pesko, 106, of Warren, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the Kinzua Healthcare and Rehabilitation Facilty. Katherine was born in St Mary's, PA on March 27, 1913, to Anna Sieracka Pesko and John (Pich) Pesko, both from Galicia 'province', Poland, he from the particular town of Cieplice. Kay grew up in Warren in a friendly neighborhood of Swiss, Swedish, German and Polish folks, attending the old Glade Run school, as well as Lacy, then on to the old Warren High School. We believe she graduated high school around 1929 but may have left high school early to work and help support her family. Kay was the second eldest of a family of eight. As she has lived until the age of 106 plus, she has become our family matriarch. In the midst of the great depression era, she and her sister and a good friend from Warren decided to move to New York for better work opportunities. After working in Brooklyn high rises for a while as maids and nannies, each obtained a job at different companies in New Jersey during the WWII era. Kay later finished her career at the former MGM record company, listening to test pressings of various artists, the early Beatles included. She retired to enjoy her love of gardening, crocheting, cooking tasty meals, and enjoying her extended family. Kay loved all animals and pets. She will be remembered a fun, giving lady, full of energy, wisdom, compassion as well as a bit of spark and mischief. Kay had a sweet, quirky way of cocking her head and asking a question or making a comment which always made us think of an adorable curious little sparkly-eyed bird. She was also a person of deep Christian faith, who often encouraged her family to not doubt but to just believe. She is survived by sister-in-law, Barb Pesko; cousin Millie Pesko; several nieces and nephews: Karen Peterson, Gayle Massa, Laurie Steber, Shelly Laurie, John Houghton and Chris Houghton (to whom she was a second mom), and Kent Sanden and Lynn Sanden, Craig Snavley, Darrell Snavley, Sharon Hulings, as well as the children of her niece, ValJean Stover. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, to whom she was more of a grandma and great grandma! In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by sisters Sophie Yaggie, Genevieve Houghton, and Marian Sanden, and brothers Johnny Pesko in WWII, Michael Pesko, Francis (Bunny) Pesko, and Eugene (Gene) Pesko; several brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces Patricia Snavley and ValJean (Dolly) Yaggie. Kay will always be remembered when we hear children laughing, or listen to polka music or a beautiful hymn, or when we enjoy the first sights and scents of spring. She was, in is now in her Heavenly home, one special lady. Friends will be received from 1-3 PM, on Monday, October 14, 2019, at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E. Warren, PA 16365. A funeral service will follow at 3 PM, with Rev. Rick Rohlin, pastor of Praise Fellowship Church, officiating. The family has requested memorial donations be made to Food for The Hungry, 1224 E. Washington Street Phoenix, AZ 85034-1102 or to Compassion International, 12290 Voyager Parkway Colorado Springs, CO 80921.
