Joyce Aline McNaughton, 92, formerly of Russell, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Rouse Home. Joyce was born June 20, 1925, in Russell, PA. She was the daughter of the late Leo and Ethel (Gage) Sadler. Joyce led a life of service to her community and our Lord. She was a dedicated employee at Warren General Hospital as a Dietary Supervisor until her retirement in 1988. A gifted pianist, Joyce began playing for the Russell United Methodist Church at the age of 12. She used her gifts as a musician to inspire a closeness to heaven in those who heard her play. She also served as the youth choir director at the First Church of the Nazarene for many years and often played the piano at the Rouse Home for the Sunday morning worship service for twenty-five years. She often partnered with her son, Reverend Marc Briggs, and grandchildren to perform during services around her community. She cherished her time on the family's farm in Russell, which she often visited and spent many hours enjoying its beauty as she walked its hills. She fostered closeness to the earth and raised her family to be stewards of the land. She appreciated the fruits of hard work and dedication, a lesson that has been passed to many generations of the family through the farm. She is survived by her son, Marcus Briggs, and wife, Lucinda, of Russell; one sister, June Jones, and husband, Tom, also of Russell; two sisters-in-law, Joanna Sadler, of Elizabethtown, and Elizabeth "Betts" Sadler, of Florence, SC. Her lineage and love is passed on through her family stories which she fondly shared with her five beautiful grandchildren, eleven delightful great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death on December 12, 2001, by her husband, Velmour B. "Mac" McNaughton, whom she married August 20, 1961; her daughter, Dianne Sherman, on May 2, 2016; and two brothers, Loren Sadler and Martin Sadler. Friends will be received on Friday, April 27, in the Jefferson Room at the First Church of the Nazarene, 907 Penn. Ave., E., Warren, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be held there with Rev. J. Maier, lead pastor, officiating.
