Joseph A. Kwas, 90, formerly of Warren, PA and Dunkirk, NY, died Wednesday March 2, 2016 at the Rouse Home, Youngsville, PA following a brief illness.  Mr. Kwas was born on January 26, 1926, in Dunkirk, NY.  He was the son of the late Andrew Peter and Mary (Przybyszewski) Kwas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Walter, sisters Helen Frost, Stephanie Heise, Stella Nasal, Sophie Romanowski and Clara Panepinto.

Mr. Kwas was a 1944 graduate of Dunkirk High School; he served in the US Army as a Military Policeman, receiving many decorations and citations for his service overseas in Germany during World War II and in Japan during the post-war occupation.  After obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Tri-State University, Angola, Indiana, he worked for Struthers Wells in Warren as a senior engineer before retiring in 1988.

Mr. Kwas was a much loved uncle to his many nieces and nephews:  James Panepinto (Red Bank, NJ), Joan Panepinto (Madison, WI), Mary Buckley (Omaha, NE), Karen Heise (Goffstown, NH), Georgie Sittig (Churchville, NY), Barbara Pieczonka (West Seneca, NY),  Marjorie Bryk (Las Vegas, NV), Edmond Romanowski (Roanoke, TX), Judy Canham (Mill Valley, CA), Maryanne Romanowski (Belmont, CA), David Romanowski (D.C) and Debbie Stearns ( Magalia, CA) and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Mr. Kwas was an avid tennis player, skier and hunter, and took full advantage of the many outdoor and sporting activities in the Warren and Dunkirk Van Buren areas.

Private burial services will be at the White Haven Memorial Park, Pittsford, NY.
