Wagner, Sr.
June 29, 1956 – May 19, 2016
John R. Wagner, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 19, 2016, after losing a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.
John was born on June 29, 1956 in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late Clarence Wagner and Alice Young. He attended Warren Area High School and worked several years at Warren State Hospital and Warren DPW. John had taken two mission trips with the Meeting God in Mission group to the Dominican Republican. He was an active member of the Warren Alliance Church where he served as a trustee, the "coffee guy," and baked his famous banana bread. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting, spending time outdoors and losing his voice as he cheered for his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. He was known county wide for his Steelers décor aka "The Steelers House." Most importantly family came first, especially his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cynthia, his children John Jr., and Shelly Wagner, Candi and Jesse Ross, Angel Wagner, Jolene and Jacob Conrad, Beth and Brad Martin, and Kenneth Hannah; his grandchildren John III, Monique, Michael, Titus, Steven, Madison, Mason, RJ, Jaylynn, Lizzy, and Chase; and his great grandchild, John Allen. He is also survived by his siblings, Butch (Barb) Wagner, Donna (Charles) Duckett , Marie Wagner, Bobbie Jo (Ed) Spencer, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Joyce Irwin; his step-father Ronald Young; his sisters, Emma Nicholas and Sherry Haines; and brother-in-law, Dale Haines.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren, on Monday, May 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Warren Alliance Church, 278 Kinzua Road, Warren, on Tuesday, May 24, at 11 a.m., with a celebration of life service to follow, with Rev. Tom Grambling, pastor, officiating. At John's request, guests are encouraged to wear Steelers attire, or black and gold, to his celebration of life service.
Burial will follow at Hessell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to the Warren Cancer Center, 2 Crescent Park W., Warren, PA 16365, or the Warren Alliance Church Trustee 's Fund.
