John Marion Thornton,79, of Warren, PA, and formerly of Scandia, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the Kinzua Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Warren. John was born on July 15, 1943, in Thermopolis, WY, the son of the late John and Emelia Mack Thornton. He was a 1961 graduate of Warren High School. He was in the U.S. Army from 1962-1965 as a Specialist 5. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Lock Haven University and did graduate studies at Penn State. He worked at Warren State Hospital for many years from which he retired. John had a small farm in Scandia where he loved his animals and his gardening. John will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful individual. John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sheryl Ann Wehler Thornton, whom he married on November 22, 1966; siblings, Dr. Leonard Thornton of British Columbia, Peter Thornton of Warren, William Thornton of Warren, Agatha Kiser of Youngsville, and Rita Thornton of Warren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his sister Grace Lamphier, and brothers, Adam Thornton, and Guy Thornton.
