Obituary

. John Rossman Crone, 88, of Warren, PA, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021, at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice House. John was born April 11, 1933, in Franklin, PA, the son of the late Wilmer and Juanita Rossman Crone. He graduated from White Memorial High School in 1951 and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany from 1957 through 1959. John was a highly regarded leader in the Warren business community, receiving numerous awards including the Warren County Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award. He was a well-known pharmacist at Cowdrick's Drug Store, which became Crone's Drug Store when he purchased it in 1987. John was extremely active in the Warren Lions Club, starting with his own induction in 1959. He served in numerous leadership positions, including President of the Warren Club and District Governor for area 14F. He had a particular passion for sight conservation and hearing research. Among his many awards, he was recognized by Lions Clubs International for distinguished service with their highest award: Ambassador of Goodwill. John's service to the community extended beyond his business and beloved Lions Club. He served on countless committees for myriad organizations, with special devotion to the Salvation Army, the Boy Scouts, and Hospice. He was also a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Warren. John was an avid music lover. He played the clarinet in the University of Pittsburgh Varsity Marching Band and returned several times to march with the Alumni Band. In Warren, he played in the Elks Band. He was sure to start tapping his feet whenever the sounds of Pete Fountain or Benny Goodman were in the air. He also enjoyed singing in the choir at First United Methodist Church. John is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Parker Crone, whom he married on July 27, 1955; two sons, Mike Crone and his wife Debbie of Warren, PA, and David Crone and his wife Martha of Columbus, OH; daughter-in-law, Diane Crone, of Warren; seven grandchildren, Michael Crone, of Warren, PA, Stephen Crone, of Warren, PA, Laura Crone, of Los Angeles, CA, Madeline Crone, of Columbus, OH, Julia Crone, of Wilmington, NC, Rachel Crone, of Binghamton, NY, and Hannah Caleffie, of Concord, NC; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death in 2009 by a son, Alan P. Crone, and in 2021 by a brother, Charles Crone. Friends and family will be received at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Market Street, Warren, PA, on Thursday, July 1, from 5 through 8 pm, and for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there at 11 am on Friday, July 2, with Rev. Dr. Mark Hecht, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Warren. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Warren Lions Club, P.O. Box 622, Warren, PA 16365; Hospice of Warren County, 1 Main Ave., Warren; or the First United Methodist Church, 200 Market St., Warren.
