Colvin, Sr.
August 19, 1916 – March 15, 2017
John A. Colvin, Sr., 100, of Warren, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice House following a brief illness. John was born August 19, 1916, in Sheffield, PA. He was the son of the late Alfred John and Hazel Hoyt (Peterson) Colvin.
John was a lifelong resident of Warren County. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked at various companies in the area, first working at Warren Axe & Tool for 20 years; he also worked as a chauffeur for John and Maude Blair; and later was employed for 17 years at Struthers Wells as a Drill Press Operator, from which he retired. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
He is survived by three children, Jacqueline Rhodes, and husband, Paul, John A, Colvin, Jr., and wife, Jo, and Roger W. Colvin, and wife, Ramie, all of Warren, PA; a special niece, Michelle Long, of KS, whom remained close over the years and visited annually; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on March 17, 2009, by his wife, Zelma Durnell Colvin, whom he married June 30, 1938; four siblings, Betty Shay, Eloise Long, Robert Colvin and Gail Colvin; two half-brothers, James Colvin and Richard Colvin; his great-grandson, Garrett Johnson; and his step-father, Fred Peterson.
Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc, 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren on Sunday, March 19 from 3 to 5 p.m., and for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there on Monday, March 20, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Marcus Briggs, chaplain, Warren General Hospital and Rouse Home, officiating.
Military honors will be provided by members of the Sheffield & Clarendon VFW Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Warren County, 1 Main Avenue, Warren, PA 16365, or a charity of choice.
