John "Bert" Lyle, 87, of 309 Penna. Ave. W. Apt 12, Warren, formerly of Sheffield, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at his home. Bert was born October 18, 1926, in Rowlesburg, WV, the son of the late James B. and Elva Mae Hitchew Lyle.

Bert was a graduate of Sheffield High School and served in the US Navy toward the end of World War II.  He was employed as an agent by Prudential Insurance Company from which he retired.  Bert gave freely of his time to help his community, with S.A.R.A., the Sheffield Medical Center, Ruth Smith Center, Sheffield United Methodist Church and planting trees for Tree City U.S.A.  He was a member of Sheffield Rotary Club, Rod and Gun Club, Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department and the Slovenia Polka Boosters.  Bert enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, his family, spending time at camp, sharing a joke, and playing poker.

A devoted husband and father, Bert is survived by his wife Marguerite, whom he married on September 9, 1998, in Maui, HI; one son, Kurt, and wife Janice, of Barnes; four daughters, Pam Mull and husband, Jeff, of Corvallis, OR; Marcy Ridgeway and husband Scott of Oil City;  Julie Steffan and husband Jamie of Sheffield; Jody Baker and husband Jerry of Warren; three step-children, Blaine Cameron and wife Sharon of Sellersville; Ronna Riffle and husband Chris of Pittsburgh, and Michael Cameron and wife Cindy of Clarendon; twelve grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bert is preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth "Pinky" Abramson Lyle on July 29, 1995, whom he married on June 11, 1949, in Sheffield, PA; two sisters  Clarabelle Francis and Barbara Simmons; four brothers, James A. Lyle, Harold R. Lyle, Phra J. Lyle, and W. Donald Lyle.

Friends will be received on Saturday, November 30, at Sheffield United Methodist Church, 5 W. Main St. Sheffield, from 12 noon to 2p.m.  There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m., with Rev Dennis Johnson officiating.  Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Sheffield United Methodist Church, 5 W. Main St. Sheffield 16347, Sheffield Rotary Club, P.O.
