Obituary

Janice June Bliss, 93, of Clarendon, PA, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024, at her residence. Janice was born December 20, 1930, in Olean, NY, the daughter of the late Earnest and Mary Sakala Dibble. Her family then moved to Clarendon where her father operated Dibble and Confer and also Dibble and Larson Oil Companies. Janice attended Clarendon Elementary School, Beaty Junior High School, and graduated from Warren High School on Market Street in 1948. Janice married Leon E. Bliss on November 8, 1953. She and Leon owned and operated The Highway Tavern and Apartments in Stoneham for 10 years. For several of those years the apartments were rented to men who came to Warren to help build the Kinzua Dam. Janice and Leon then bought and operated Bliss's Coffee Shop in Clarendon for 10 years. Following that, Janice went to work at Blair for 19 years, first in the downtown Warren building, then to the Irvine Distribution Center in the mailing department. Janice played piano, did embroidery, and began working at the age of 15 at Miller's Confectionary in Clarendon. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church which later became the Trinity United Methodist Church in Clarendon. Janice participated in activities of the Clarendon Fire Department Auxiliary. Janice is survived by two children, Melody Mead and husband Jim of Sheffield, and Rene Lawson and husband Troy of Franklin, PA; daughter-in-law, Martha Bliss of Clarendon; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband Leon; son, Dirk Bliss; brother, Jim Dibble; and a son-in-law, Charles Dunn. Friends will be received at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penna Ave. E., Warren, PA, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:00pm, at which time a funeral service will be held with Reverend James Swanson, pastor, Pleasant Community Church, officiating.
