Janet T. "Toddy" Mahan, 83, of East Fifth Ave., Warren, Pa., entered the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 after a short illness.
Janet was born October 14, 1928, in Oliver Township, Jefferson County, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Edna Lingenfelter Todd. Janet attended Startzell Common School, graduated from Punxsutawney High School, class of 1945, and Phillipsburg State General Hospital Nursing School, class of 1950. She was employed at the Warren state Hospital for many as a Registered Nurse, from which she retired. She worked at other area facilities including Warren General Hospital and the Rouse Estates. Following her retirement, she traveled the world, visiting places including England, Thailand and Kansas.
She was a strong, independent woman who provided for the needs of her family and emphasized the importance of education. She actively supported several Christian mission organizations. Janet was active in several area churches over the years and enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She most recently attended the Calvary Baptist Church.
Janet was a member of the General Joseph-Warren Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member and chaplain of the Kanoagoa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists.
She is survived by four children, David Mahan, and wife Joyce, Bradford, Pa., Daniel Mahan, and wife Marcia, York, Pa., Laurie Baker, and husband David, Hagerstown, MD and Stephen Mahan, and wife Karen, Milford, Michigan; nine grandchildren, Andrew Mahan, and wife Peggy, Matthew Mahan, and wife Elizabeth, Rachel Mahan, Elizabeth Mahan, and husband Seth, Stephen Mahan Jr. and wife Bethany, Ellen Mahan, Joseph Mahan, Ron Mahan and Elizabeth Mahan; seven great grandchildren, Lydia, Samuel, Benjamin, Stephen III, Sophie Grace and Kaitlyn; two siblings, Louise Benson, and husband Carl and Vira Bines, and husband Richard, all of Punxsutawney, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on May 5, 2008, by her husband, Gordon David Mahan, whom she married on March 31, 1951, in Winchester, Va.; granddaughter, Julie Mahan; and five siblings, Robert Todd, Andrew Todd, Paul Todd, Blaine Todd, and Ellen Blose.
Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Friday, May 4, from, 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Calvary Baptist Church, 445 Conewango Ave., Warren, for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there on Saturday, May 5 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Clair Cable and Rev. Michael Mullins, pastor, co-officiating.
Burial will follow at the Foster Cemetery, Lander, Pa.
