James A. Toner, 76, of Pleasant Township, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014, at the Rouse Home, following a brief stay.  James was born July 5, 1937, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Albert W. and Gertrude E. Sidon Toner.

After high school, James enlisted in the US Air Force.  He was employed by the National Forge, both in Irvine and Erie, from which he retired.  He was a driver for the DAV, a member of the Power Squadron, and a longtime member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Pleasant Township.  James was also an avid bowler, and had belonged to many leagues throughout the years, and he truly enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Hanson Toner; one daughter, Stacey Valiga, and husband, Mark, of Erie, PA, and one son, Eric Toner, and wife, Michelle, of South Lake Tahoe, and their three children, Christopher, Nicole and Erik; two sisters, Judy Scheno, of Port Charlotte, FL and Mary Kittell, of Irvine, PA; one brother, William Toner, of Sugar Grove, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Rulander.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, on Wednesday, July 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.  The funeral service will be held there on Thursday, July 3, at 1 p.m., with The Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, pastor, St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery, Warren, PA.
