James K. Pickering, 61, of Warren died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at his home following a brief illness. Jim was born July 17, 1954, in Cheverly, MD. He was the son of the late James L. and LaVonne G. (Norcross) Pickering.

Jim grew up in Warren, and served as a Medical Corpsman in Germany during the Vietnam War. He had worked in transportation for many years, first at Crossett for 20 years, and most recently at Tom Hassel Transport of New Jersey. Jim enjoyed the outdoors--fishing and hunting, as well as gardening, both vegetables and flowers. He was also a great cook and was well known for his great soups. His family will always remember him as an amazing grandfather and step-father, and for having a wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Cherlyn (Maier) Pickering, whom he married September 18, 1993, at the First Baptist Church, Warren; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jeanne and Fred Maier, of Warren; two step-children, Melissa Means, and fiancé, Luke Conklin, of Warren, and Scott Means, USAF, currently serving in England; two sisters, Candy Yeagle, and husband, Roger, of Warren and Christine Wiles, and husband, William, of Bechtelsville, PA; and one brother, Gerald "Bucky" Johnson, of GA. He also has two grandchildren, Keegan and Griffin Conklin; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Pickering.

Friends will be received at the Warren Alliance Church, 278 Kinzua Road, Warren, on Sunday, July 26, from 3 to 4 p.m., at which time, a funeral service will be held there, with Rev. Douglas McCracken, pastor, officiating.
