IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Oriole
August 30, 1946 – November 8, 2018
Gone Fishin' in Heaven James Frederick (Jim) Oriole was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, son of the late Anthony Oriole and Helen Steinbrenner Oriole. Jim had plans of going to divinity school and becoming a pastor - but those plans were changed by Uncle Sam. He served proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War, where he became pen pals with a young woman from Warren, Pennsylvania - the beginning of a love story that lasted 52 years. After his service, Jim worked as a postal carrier for more than 20 years. A mid-life career change saw him attend nursing school and become an LPN at the Warren State Hospital. Jim dedicated his life to helping others - as a nurse and patient advocate, volunteer firefighter, first responder, forest fire warden and union steward. He was a devoted husband, father and friend to all who knew him. Jim was an avid fisherman, hunter, league bowler and dog lover. Jim is survived by his wife Joanne Werlin Oriole, brother Thomas, daughter Jeanine and her husband David Carter, and son Jonathan and his husband Uziel Gonzalez. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Oriole. Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave.E., Warren, PA, on Monday, November 12, from 6 to 8 pm, and for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 13, at 2 pm with The Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, pastor, First Lutheran Church, officiating.
