November 22, 1932 – July 4, 2020
James A. Gray, 87, of Pleasant Township, Warren, Pa. died on July 4th, 2020 at his residence, surrounded by loving family. Jim was born November 22, 1932, one of twelve children on the family farm on Yankee Bush, in Warren, PA. He was the son of Ralph and Grace Porter Gray. A lifelong resident, Jim was a 1950 graduate of Warren Area High School. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army from March 1953 to February 1955, serving in Okinawa during the Korean War. Jim worked for the railroad, Westinghouse, and he was a rural letter carrier for the US Postal Service for many years, from which he retired, then driving school bus with the school district. Jim also had a rural paper route for many years. Jim was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where he was regularly active with the Faith Builders Sunday School Class, the Grace Choir, the Men's Choir, and was a Trustee. Jim enjoyed being involved in the SPEBSQSA (Barbershoppers) and went on many Lay witness Missions and Redbird Missions. He was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers and a Little League Baseball coach. He also worked with Helping Hands. Jim was known as a man of many talents and was able to fix most anything. Jim is survived by his wife, Karen Lawson Danielson Gray, whom he married on June 14, 1986; his former wife, Kay Taft Gray; six children, Victoria J. (Rodney) Miles of Spring Creek, Pa., Lee A (Debra) Gray of Warren, Jacqueline (Scott) Saber of Warren; Mark R. (Julie) Danielson of Warren; Gregg L. (Judi) Danielson of Warren, and Christopher Danielson of Warren: a brother Dorian Gray of Nashville, TN: a sister, Madeline Colvin of Warren; seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great -grandchildren, and another on the way; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Michael C. Gray in 1996; his brothers, Melvin, Paul, Herman, Merle, Wendell, and Russell; and sisters Mary, Rachel, and Margaret. Friends will be received at the Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Penna Ave East, Warren, Pa. on Saturday July 11, 2020, for one hour prior to a Memorial Service to be held there at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Kevin Haley, former pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial donations be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Penna. Ave. East, Warren, PA 16365 or to Hospice of Warren County, One Main Ave, Warren, PA 16365.
