Obituary

Howard Ellis Johnson, 84, a resident of the Suites at the Rouse Home, Youngsville, PA, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, after a brief illness.  Howard was born November 4, 1929, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Ellis and the late Margaret Hill Johnson.

Howard was a graduate of Warren High School.  He began his career working for Stuart Meyers at Sunray Products in North Warren, and was employed there for twenty years.  Howard was the first employee of Whirley Drinkworks, working as Supervisor in the Mold Department and later working as a consultant for several plastic firms.  During his tenure at Whirley, he had the opportunity to travel internationally, selling car washes and laundry equipment.

Upon retirement, Howard worked as a Real Estate Sales Professional.  He was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman.  In the 1960s, he volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 13 in North Warren.  He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, in Warren, and was a past member of the Elks Club, Eagles Club and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.  He enjoyed the outdoors and spent a great deal of time at his beloved camp in Hearts Content, with his brother, Jim, and their many friends.  Howard and his wife enjoyed flea marketing in their spare time.

He is survived by his children, Kristine M. Whitaker, and husband, Craig, of Warren, and Kerry Lynn Johnson, and fiancé, Bill Thompson, of Kane; two grandchildren, Emily A. Zdarko, and husband, Christopher, of Erie, and Zachary D. Litzinger, of Kane, PA; one brother, James R. Johnson, of Warren; two sisters, Barbara A. Jerman, and Carol Crocker, both of Warren; and brother in law, Robert E. Uhr, also of Warren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife of fifty seven years, Mary Elizabeth Uhr Johnson, who passed away in January 2008; and infant twins, Kathy Ann and Keith Allan Johnson.

Friends will be received at the First Lutheran Church, 109 W. Third Ave., Warren, PA, on Monday, June 30, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, at which time a memorial service will be held there, with The Rev. David Blank, and The Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, co-officiating.  Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park.
