IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold C.
Bloomgren, Sr.
September 5, 1920 – May 22, 2015
Harold C. Bloomgren, Sr. 94, passed into the presence of the Lord on Friday, at his home in Russell, PA.
Harold was born September 5, 1920, in Jamestown, NY; he was the only child of Claus and Selma (Sandell) Bloomgren.
Harold served his country in WWII, serving in the military police in Germany, Italy, France and Ireland. During his service, he earned three bronze stars. While wearing his uniform on his visit to the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC, he was surprised that people wanted to shake his hand and have their picture taken with him.
Harold lived life every day. In his younger years, he was employed by Grandin Mills in Jamestown, NY and later was a salesman for Texas Refinery Corp. until his death. While he didn't travel as much to see his customers, he was still making some visits, taking calls and orders. He still mowed his own lawn and planted a garden.
Harold enjoyed traveling to visit his children and their families, and he and his wife visited relatives in Sweden. They also traveled to Norway, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Hawaii and Alaska.
He was preceded in death on February 27, 2014, by his wife of 70 years, Genevieve "Betty" Arthur Bloomgren, whom he married on March 29, 1943; and his infant daughter, Susan.
Harold and Betty were the proud parents of Linda Clover, and husband, Ron, of Warren, Allen Bloomgren, and wife, Billie, of Great Falls, TX, Harold Bloomgren, Jr., and wife, Diane, of Russell, twins Gary Bloomgren, and wife, Beth, of Russell, and Jerry Bloomgren, and wife, Debbie, of Sugar Grove, PA, twins Karen Beardsley, and husband, Ed, of Lander, and Kathleen Landin, and husband, Jeff, of Butler, PA, Darryl Bloomgren, of Panama, NY, and Carol Addesso, and husband, Bob, of Cape May, NJ. He also has 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Harold was a member of the Lander United Methodist Church, where friends will be received on Tuesday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, at which time, a funeral service will be held there, with Rev. J. Mark Hurst, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Marshtown Cemetery, where he will be laid next to his beloved Betty.
