Obituary

H. Kent Petersen, 84, of Warren, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at the Warren Manor.  Kent was born June 23, 1930, in Warren, PA, the son of the late J. Edgar and Agnes Mahaffey Petersen.

He graduated from Warren High School in 1948, and worked at J.C. Penney.  Kent served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal in Korea and Japan and came back to Warren in 1953.  He worked at Oneida Lumber and Supply, Means Lumber, Dan's Chevrolet and Stroehmann's Bakery.  He also helped design and remodel Emanuel United Church of Christ.

Music was a big part of his life, as he loved playing the piano and organ, and was "Accordion Pete" in Joe Vario's Sun Valley Rangers, sang in the Conewango Clippers Chorus, and in the choir at Emanuel Church, where he met the love of his life, Beverly.

After being organist at Emanuel Church and many other positions, he joined Grace United Methodist Church and sang in the Grace Choir and Grace Madrigals, and also served on many committees.  He had also worked as a Hospice volunteer and also served as a Councilman for the Warren Borough Eighth Ward.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beverly Mathis Petersen, whom he married on February 23, 1963, at the Emanuel Church of Christ; a son, Dane Petersen, and his wife, Becky, Warren, PA and a daughter, Kara, and her husband, Jeff Winiarz, Rolla, MO; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; as well as his church family and his dear friends, Beth and David MacPherson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar and Albert Petersen, and his sister, Margaret Stewart.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, on Sunday, September 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., and at the Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, on Monday, September 29, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time, a funeral service will be held there, with Rev. Rich Pearson, pastor, Rev. Seth McClymonds, associate pastor, and Rev. Kevin Haley, pastor, First United Methodist Church of Clarion, co-officiating.  Burial will follow at Warren County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church Music Fund, 501 Penn. Ave., E., Warren, PA 16365, or Hospice of Warren County, 2 Crescent Park West, Warren, PA 16365.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Warren Manor for their loving care for Kent over the past two years.
