Gladys Mae Nelson, 92, of Warren, PA, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Warren Manor.
Gladys was born May 15, 1921, in Warren, PA, the daughter of the late Ralph and Mabel (Culbertson) Rapp. She was a 1939 graduate of Warren High School, and a lifelong area resident. She was employed for some time as a seamstress for the Warren Bridal Shop.
Gladys was a member of the former Epworth United Methodist Church, and a member of the Church's 55+ group; a member of the Wednesday Night Bowling League at Penn Lanes; and a member of the Blueberry Ladies Golf League. She was an incredible baker, and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. For all that Gladys will be remembered, most importantly, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by four daughters, Donna Herzog, of Sheffield, PA, Judy Fields and her longtime companion, Jim Harrington, of Wendell, NC, Connie Nelson, of Louisburg, NC, and Patti Caudle, and her husband, Charlie, also of Louisburg, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Gladys is also a grandmother to eleven grandchildren and seventeen great -grandchildren
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death on April 27, 2001, by her husband, Laverne W. Nelson, whom she married on June 21, 1941; one son, Edward Nelson, in 2002; one grandson, James Buck, Jr., in 1978; two brothers, Leo and Lyle Rapp; and two sisters, Mary Nelson and Anna Reynolds.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, PA., on Wednesday, April 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Seth McClymonds, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Warren Manor Patient Activity Fund, 682 Pleasant Drive, Warren, PA 16365, or the American Heart Association, 185 Hospital Drive, Warren, PA 16365.
