Gilbert A. "Gib" Mead, 84, of Main Street, Russell, Pa., passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Warren General Hospital.

Gib was born October 18, 1927, in Warren, Pa., the son of the late Gerry and Mildred Marlett Mead. He was in the US Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre and Korean War.  He worked at the Warren State Hospital for many years from which he retired, in the paint shop and then the maintenance foreman.  Gib was one of the founders of the Kinzua Heritage Festival on Fox Hill Road.  He was also very active in the YMCA and was the founder of the Fitness Center.  He enjoyed the outdoors, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing.

He is survived by his son, Scott Mead, Akeley, Pa.; three grandchildren,  Nakia Mead and his wife Sabrina, Akeley, Pa., Nokomis Stanton, and her husband Dave, Russell, Pa. and Tyler Abbott, Youngsville, Pa.; one great grandchild, Hialeah Stanton; two sisters, June Hale and her husband Bill, Akeley, Pa. and Jeannette Siffin, and her husband Don, Harrisburg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on August 2, 2004, by his wife, Nanette Sulo Mead; brother, Ray Mead; sister, Joyce Mead, and special friend, Ginny Scott.

Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Wednesday, May 2, from, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Cable Hollow Community Church, 3157 Cable Hollow Road, Russell, on Thursday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Allan Jones, Pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, PA.
