George Christopher Cordes, 79, of Russell, PA, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at his home.

George was born September 30, 1935, in Long Island, NY. He was the son of the late John and Anna (Kriss) Cordes. George was employed by US Airways, beginning his career in cargo and ultimately retiring as management in Indianapolis. He enjoyed golfing, and had spent his summers working part time at the Conewango Valley Country Club. A man who always liked to keep busy, he maintained a computer repair business of his own, and was a driver for Traska Bus. George was also a member of the Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn M. (Webster) Cordes, whom he would have shared his 57th wedding anniversary with on May 24; four children, George C. Cordes, Jr., and wife, Liz, of Tupper Lake, NY, Lynda Wiles, and husband, Devon, of Rosenburg, TX, Cynthia Anderson, of Bonita Springs, FL, and Tim Cordes, and wife, Sherry, of Bellingham, MA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four siblings, Carl Bandazy, Andrew Cordes, Robert Cordes and Mary May.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 26, at the Russell United Methodist Church, 17 N Main St, Russell, PA, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time, a memorial service will be held there, with Rev. David Heckman, pastor, officiating.
