Gary Sherman North, 74, of Cable Hollow Road, Russell, PA, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Gary was born March 2, 1942 in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Millard and Mildred (Lundgren) North. He as a lifelong Cable Hollow resident and a1960 graduate of Eisenhower High School. Following graduation, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era, in the Electronics Maintenance Squadron, mostly working on the F106 Interceptor.

Gary then worked for thirty six years at the National Forge Company as an Electrical Supervisor, and as an Electrical Design Engineer.

Gary was a member of the Cable Hollow Community Church, President of the Hale Cemetery Association, a member of the Vikings Club of Chautauqua, NY, and the American Legion, Frewsburg, N.Y.

Gary and his wife loved to travel in their fifth wheel and their motor home, having been throughout the U.S., including Alaska, California, and Nova Scotia. Gary also loved his heritage and English and Swedish genealogy. He and Elaine visited Sweden, and visited many relatives. He also enjoyed Farmall tractors and photography.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Schuyler) North, whom he married on March 5, 1990; a daughter Kimberly Reeder (Steve) of Baltimore, MD:  two sons, Gary North Jr. (Heather) of Nashua, N.H., James North of Warren, two stepchildren Timothy Hart (Gail) of Keller, TX, and Colleen Laxdal (David) of Brampton, Ontario; grandchildren, twins Ryan and Tyler North, and Abigail North; step grandchildren, Nikki and Andrew Hart, and twins Zachary and Jacob Hart, Amber Wesley, and Magnus Laxdal; a great granddaughter, Rhyza Wesley; one brother, William North, Russell; a sister, Jane Burlingame (Dick), also of Russell; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his step mother, Dorothy Zimmerman; and a brother, Robert North.

Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc, 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, PA, on Tuesday, January 10, from 5 to 8 p.m., and at the Cable Hollow Community Church, on Wednesday, January 11, for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there at 11 a.m., with Rev. Alan Jones, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hale Cemetery, Akeley.
