Eugene L. Shine, 85, of 82 Six Mile Road, Tiona, PA, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013, at Rouse Warren County Home.
Gene was born November 3, 1927, in Kinzua, PA, the son of the late Arthur and Mattie Valentine Shine. He had been employed for many years as a Boring Lathe Operator at the National Forge Company, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, Big Brothers, Tionesta Snowmobile Club, Glade VFD, and Past President of the NFO Irvine Credit Union, and coached for many years with the Warren Little League.
Gene served in the U.S. Army, Company F, Sixteenth Infantry, European Theatre, during WWII. He was the recipient of the Occupation Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley P. Shine, whom he married May 15, 1951; five children, Devona Ducharme and Arthur Shine, both of Warren, PA, Robert Shine, and wife, Julie, Carson City, NV, Thomas Shine, Warren, PA, and Colin "Coco" Shine, Tiona, PA; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Shine, William Shine, Robert Shine, one sister, Joanne Reiff; and a grandson, Jamie Stewart.
Friends will be received at the Peterson - Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Thursday, January 24, from 6 to 8 p.m., and for one hour prior to a Funeral Liturgy to be held there on Friday, January 25, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. James Gutting, pastor, Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Inurnment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum of the Resurrection.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of choice.
