Obituary

Elsie Geraldine(Sherwin) McCollough, age 100, went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2014. She resided at the Warren Manor.  She was born at Karns City, PA  December 2, 1913 to Samuel and Alice Samantha  (Kaylor) Sherwin.  Elsie was the youngest of eight children and the last of her siblings to survive.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Peter David, Jesse Harvey, Joseph Samuel, and Lee Alfred and three sisters, Hattie Mabel (Mrs. Harry Wilbert Ekas), Hazel Irene (Mrs. Samuel Boyd Morris)and Ella Priscilla (Mrs. Edwin Dale Walker).   She was also preceded in death by a son Robert Eugene McCollough on May 27, 1947 at age 14.  She was preceded in death by two grandsons, John Young and Edward Young and a great-grandchild  Johnny Young  Jr.
Elsie graduated from high school in 1931 and in the same year married her high school sweetheart Edward Christian McCollough on June 29, 1931.  One of her favorite memories to share is that they took her mother-in-law with them on their honeymoon.  They took the first car they had owned, a Chevy with a rumble seat and her mother-in-law rode in the rumble seat!  They enjoyed 74 years of a happily married life.  Edward preceded her in death and died at the age of 94, July 13, 2005.
Elsie is survived by five of her children,  Mrs. Carol Ann Young of Conroe TX, Mrs. Marilyn Jean Henderson and husband Eugene of Sumterville, FL , Charles Bennet and wife Bertha Louise of Sumterville, FL, Samuel Sherwin and wife Jeanne of Warren, PA, and Joseph Edward and wife Vera of Warren PA.  She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 29+ great great grand children.

Elsie lived a full and active life up to the time of her passing.  She has always been active in church functions, especially during the years her husband, Edward served as a United Methodist minister in the Western Pennsylvania Conference .  During those years she served as a secretary in most of the churches they were assigned to, played organ and piano, and participated in many of the church organizations.  She continued playing organ and piano at Otterbein United Methodist Church, Youngsville, PA. as the substitute pianist even at the age of 98.  She enjoyed playing piano at the Warren Manor while a resident there for Bible Study and Sunday worship.  Elsie played piano at her 100th birthday celebration at Otterbein Church on December 1, 2013.
Elsie shared that some of her best memories were her experiences with the Lord.   One of her favorite Bible verses was Jeremiah 29:13,  "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

Most of all and dear to Elsie was having her children and a loving family.
