March 6, 1925 – June 15, 2002
Edward R. Meyer Sr., 77, RD#2 Box 1532, Clarendon Pa., died Saturday, June 15, 2002 at his home, following an extended illness. Mr. Meyer was born in Pittsburgh on March 6, 1925, the son of the late Rahlston and Helen Zankel Meyer. He served two tours with the 14th Armored Division of the United States Army during World War 2 in the European Campaign and received a Bronze Star. Mr. Meyer was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed golfing, earning the title of Club Champion for four years with the Cable Hollow senior league. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, sang in the choir for numerous years and cooked for the Senior Fellowship. Edward was a member of the 14th Armored Division Association Inc., Kalbfus Rod and Gun Club, Cable Hollow Senior League, Blueberry Senior League, American Legion Post # 135, and the VFW of Warren. He was employed by Country Belle Milk Company in Pittsburgh, and drove for Connelly Beer Distributor in Warren.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Hoffman Meyer, two daughters, Debra Ferdiani and Karen Cahill of Pittsburgh, a step-son, Rodd Hoffman of Warren, step daughter, Linda Hoffman of Shelby, North Carolina, two sisters, Catherine Frisch of Florida and Patty Mattes of Pittsburgh, one brother James Meyer of Indiana Pa., seven grandchildren, Edward R. Meyer III, Lauren Cahill, Jon, Steven, Chad, Alicia, and Kristina Hoffman. He has five great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by a son, Edward R. Meyer Jr., three brothers, Harry, Junie, and Bill Meyer, and a sister, Margaret (Sis) Crewe.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral home from 1 – 3 p.m., on Tuesday June 18, 2002, and a memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with the Reverend Cindy Coleman officiating. Burial will be at Weiler Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Warren County.
