Obituary

Douglas N. Turner, 60, of Pittsfield passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Warren General Hospital.  Douglas was born February 6, 1953, in Union City, PA. He is the son of the late Omar Eugene and Violet Payne Turner.

Douglas served in the US Army during the end of the Vietnam War.  While stationed in Europe, he developed a passion for skiing; first learning in Germany and the Alps of Austria.  He was a member of the National Ski Patrol for thirty five years at both the Buckaloons ski resort and Peek 'n Peak ski resort.  For the past 11 years, he had been employed by the Forest Service as a heavy equipment operator.  He was a member of the Youngsville American Legion Post 658, and had been an assistant Boy Scout leader in troop 22 Irvine, PA.  Douglas was also an avid reader and a skilled woodworker.

He is survived by one daughter, Heather Turner, and her fiancé, David Kaufman, Jr., Pittsburgh, PA, one son, James Turner, Pittsfield, PA; his companion and best friend, Margie Stanger;  four sisters, Elizabeth Holmes, Erie, PA, Lois Turner, Sevierville , TN, Janice Wilcox, Pawleys Island, SC, and Linda Litten, Crisfield, MD; three brothers, David Turner, Pittsfield, PA, Dale Turner, and his wife, Nancy, Pittsfield, PA, and Dan Turner, Meadville, PA; his father-in-law, James R. Johnson, Warren, PA; several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Molly Johnson Turner, whom he married May 1, 1982, at the First United Methodist Church, Warren; and two sisters, Carol Turner and Margaret Turner.

Friends will be received at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 258 Dalrymple Street, Pittsfield, PA, on Friday, October 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time, a memorial service will be held there, with Rev. Steve Gruver, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Sheffield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 185 Hospital Drive, Warren, PA 16365; or Boy Scouts of America, 316 Fourth Ave., Warren, PA 16365.
