February 18, 1948 – January 10, 2017
David Lee Harkins, Sr., 68, of Sugar Grove, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center. David was born February 18, 1948, in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late Jack L. and Marian (Chambers) Harkins.
David was a graduate of Eisenhower High School. He worked at various locations throughout the Warren county area including Valentine Disposal and Berenfield Container. Most recently, David and his wife had taken up several newspaper routes. He was a member of the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church. David was also a member of the NRA, an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed watching the Miami Dolphins. David will be remembered for the pride he took in working on cars in his garage, and his love of meatloaf, apple pie and fried green tomato sandwiches. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Lou (VanOrd) Harkins, whom he married September 29, 1989; sixteen children, Paula Harrington (Kerry Smith), Donald Nichols (Theresa), Alicia Moore (Doug), Bill Nichols (Diana), David J. Harkins (Yvonne), Scott Nichols (Renee Lysher), Jennifer Mohney (Dave), Shawn Harkins (Theresa), Joanna Saxton (Chip Wenzel), Ron Harkins (Jaci), Joey Chamberlain (Danielle Ferraro), Andy Chamberlain, Chasity Rutsky (Robert), Vicki Ward (Gary), David L. Harkins, Jr. (Kim Collingwood) and Daniel Harkins (Ashley Williams); 58 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Marshall (Steve); two brothers, Dale Harkins, Sr. (Becky) and Denny Harkins (Debbie); and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kameko Rose Phelps; and sister, Diane Harkins.
Friends will be received at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown Street, Sugar Grove, on Saturday, January 14, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a service will be held there with Rev. Billy Hughes, pastor, officiating.
