David R. Gard, 70, of 342 Stoney Mountain Lane, Warren, and formerly of Findlay Lake, NY, died Thursday, February 11, 2016, at his residence.  Mr. Gard was born September 18, 1945, in Silver Creek, NY. He is the son of the late Russell and Gladys Gard.

David served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.   He retired as a machinist and electrical engineer.  David loved the outdoors and living off the grid.  He was an avid black powder gun enthusiast, and loved his cats, especially Schmatta.  He was very active in the Wayside and the Brookside Ministry.

He is survived by his wife Idyan F. Johnston; eight children, David R. Gard, Jr. and wife, Violet, Ripley, NY, Bryan Gard, and wife, JoAnn, Sugar Grove, Nicole Willis, and husband, Anthony, IL, Jessica Gard, Jamestown, NY, William Gard, Buffalo, NY and Adam Gard, also of Buffalo, NY; and daughters, Shelly and Sherry; two brothers, Daniel Gard, and wife, Diane, Silver Creek, NY, and Russell Gard, Forestville, NY; three step-children, Jennifer Lambert, CA, Greg Lambert, TX, and Sharai Johnston Schafer, Montrose, PA; 16 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a step-grandson, Joshua Lambert, Warren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Emules Gard; brother, Thomas Gard.

A cemetery service will be held at the Oakland Cemetery Chapel, 37 Mohawk Avenue, Warren, on Monday, February 15, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Donald Eggleston, First Baptist Church of Ripley, officiating.
