Constance Theresa Adams Robertson (Connie), 85, died on Thursday, February 21, in Warren Pennsylvania after a lengthy illness. Connie passed away at Warren Manor while receiving rehabilitative services.

Connie came to Warren in 1998 from West Virginia along with her husband, Jack E. Robertson.  They came in order to be near their only child - Jane Robertson Dunshie - and Jane's husband Dale.  Both still reside in Warren. Jack died in 2001 while staying at Warren Manor.

Connie was born April 4, 1927,  the daughter of the late James Marion Adams and Margaret Hargis Adams of Little Rock, Arkansas.  Both were lifelong educators. At the time of his death Mr. Adams was the Arkansas Director of Vocational Education.  Connie had one brother, the late James Marion Adams, Jr. also of Little Rock.  His wife Joan Faucett Adams survives along with their children Joe Adams and Jan Adams Hollenberg and her husband Tannen, all of Little Rock; and Jay Adams and wife Jaimee of Fort Lauderdale Florida.

Connie graduated in 1944 from Little Rock High School and then attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway AR.  She graduated in 1947 from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a major in business administration.

Connie married Jack on August 24, 1946 in Fayetteville AR while both were students at the U of A.  Jack was a son of the late John William (Jack) and Tassie Mai Moore Robertson from Blytheville AR.  Connie is survived by a sister-in-law Tommie Robertson Mohen of Memphis TN; brothers-in-law Joe T. Robertson and his wife Jo Evelyn of Corinth, MS, Carl L. Robertson of Krum, TX, and Robert N. Robertson and his wife Martha of Reno NV.  There are many Robertson related nieces and nephews and friends from across the country surviving Connie.

Following college graduation and the birth of their daughter Jane Ann, Jack and Connie moved to Denton Texas where Jack earned his Masters, and then to Monticello AR. where Connie served as a social worker for Drew County and Jack taught at Arkansas A & M College.  Next they moved to New Orleans, LA where Jack earned his Ph D at Tulane University and Connie worked for the New Orleans Red Cross.  In 1957 the Robertson family moved to Wichita Kansas where Jack taught economics at Wichita University.  While in New Orleans they became active members of the Unitarian Church and continued that involvement with the Wichita church. A piano at the Jamestown NY Unitarian Universalist Church is dedicated in part to Connie and Jack as a gift from Jane and Dale.

In 1963 Connie and her family moved to Glen Ferris, West Virginia.  Jack was the Director of Business Adm. and Economics at the West Virginia Institute of Technology.  Connie was a homemaker, an avid bridge player, and volunteered at the nearby Gauley Bridge Museum.  After a few years she enrolled in Marshall University in Huntington, WV where she earned a Masters in counseling.  She taught business courses and became counselor at Gauley Bridge High School where she served as a counselor/educator for 27 years.

Connie was also on the board of the Fayette County library system and an active member of the local American Association of University Women.  Connie spent evenings working on needlepoint canvases and has many beautifully framed Needlepoint creations.  She and Jack enjoyed traveling in the US and Europe plus driving with friends through England, Scotland and Wales.

Following the move to Warren Connie joined the Woman's Club where long term Warren ladies embraced and welcomed her to the Club and to the Thursday bridge group.  She played bridge with other groups as well.  Connie volunteered in the Book Cellar at the Warren Public Library, was a member of the League of Women Voters and of the YMCA where she exercised by walking.  She was a member of the Conewango Club and the Warren Historical Society.

Connie enjoyed her family, her pet dogs, watching professional baseball teams, the Indy 500, Masterpiece Theatre, evening game shows on TV, an ironic joke, thoughtful and engaging conversation, shopping – especially for shoes at the Greenbrier – with Jane, and Dale's cooking.  Her lifelong love of reading helped tremendously during her painful illness as did the books that the Shear Madness II ladies forwarded to her.

There will be a reception honoring Connie on Saturday, March 2, from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Woman's Club of Warren (310 Market St.).  At 4 there will be a short program sharing recollections of Connie.  Friends and acquaintances are welcome to attend.  Pictures of Connie's life and framed pieces of her needlepoint will be on display.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Connie's name to any organization of the donor's choosing.  Suggestions for recipients with special meaning in Connie's life include the Warren Library Association (205 Market St., Warren, PA  16365); the Fayette County Public Library (531 Summit St., Oak Hill, WV 25901); and the Woman's Club Scholarship Fund (Woman's Club of Warren, 310 Market St., Warren, PA  16365).
