Obituary

Carol Chandler, 87, of Warren, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.  Carol was born May 15, 1927, in Palo Alto, CA. She is the daughter of the late Harvey M. and Margaret Mertz Slater.

Carol was a graduate of Stanford University, majoring in Ancient Spanish Literature.  She spent much of her time as a diving coach, both locally at Warren Area High School, and also nationally.  She had the best record of any diving coach at Warren Area High School.

At the age of 45, Carol began her career at the Bell Atlantic Telephone Company as a major accounts representative.  In 1994, Carol retired and moved to Warren.  She was a member of the Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church.  She will be remembered as a strong willed, witty woman with a great sense of humor.

She is survived by one daughter, Anne Fitzgerald, and husband, Roy vanNorstrand, of Syracuse, NY; two sons, Robert Chandler, and wife, Janet, of Marion, IA and William Chandler, and wife, Tina, of Reston, VA; six grandchildren, Kani St. Clair, Patricia Fitzgerald, David Fitzgerald, Carrie Fish and husband Trent, Kim Biechler and husband Michael and Zoe Hannan; and two great-grandchildren, Jaelyn and Jaxsen Fish.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert and Woody Slater.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, at the Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, 444 Pennsylvania Ave. W., Warren, PA.  The Rev. Matthew Scott, vicar, and Timothy Dyer, pastoral associate, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Warren County YMCA, 212 Lexington Ave, Warren, PA 16365.
