Carol D. Backstrom, 91, of Russell, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2022. She was currently a patient at Kinzua Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Carol was born on July 10, 1931, in Warren, Pa, the daughter of John M. and Florence Palmer Dickinson. She was a 1949 graduate of Warren High School and a graduate of Edinboro University. A lifelong Warren resident, Carol was an English teacher for Beaty Junior High School and Warren Area High School, retiring in 1979. Carol was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she was active in many programs. She was also very active with the Russell Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She also loved gardening and had a special garden for Monarch butterflies. Carol is survived by two daughters, Martha J. Backstrom and Dorinda M. Backstrom of Russell, PA; two sons, Mark J. Backstrom of Volant, PA, James W. Backstrom of Russell, PA; three grandsons, Dandridge J. Scott Jr., Ethan Z. Backstrom, and Donald L. Backstrom; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandson; one niece; and one nephew. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death on July 11,1998, by her husband, Donald L. Backstrom; a sister, Joyce Y. Tunall in 2009; and infant grandson, Randy S. Scott. Friends will be received at the Calvary Baptist Church, 445 Conewango Ave. Warren, PA, on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am with Reverend Joel Dingeldein, officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren County Memorial Park. The family suggests donations in memory of Carol be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 445 Conewango Ave. Warren, PA, and the Russell Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, 111 Perrigo Lane, Russell, PA.
