Sgt. Bryan Michael Smith, 29, of Erie, PA, and formerly of Warren, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 24, 2014 at his residence.
Bryan was born December 19, 1984 in Jamestown, NY. He is the son of Todd M. Smith of Warren, and Sandra Ann Smith of Spring Creek. A lifelong Warren resident, Bryan was a 2003 graduate of Eisenhower High School, where he excelled in both wrestling and football. He enjoyed hunting, four wheeling, and was an avid NY Jets fan.
Bryan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2004, and served through 2012, from which he retired. He served as a Combat Engineer and Expert Rifleman in Operation Iraqi Freedom. A highly decorated soldier, he was the recipient of the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Award, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Iraq Campaign Medal with three stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Certificate of Appreciation, and the Expert Rifle Badge. Bryan was also a drill instructor at Parris Island. He was through and through a Marine, and was held in high regard by his fellow soldiers.
He is survived by his wife, Lissette A. Rullan Smith, of Erie, whom he married on May 31, 2008; his father, Todd M. Smith, of Warren, his mother, Sandra A. Smith and her fiance', Richard Danielson, of Spring Creek, PA; a sister, Brooklyn Dean and her husband Joshua, of Irvine, PA; a brother, Zachary A. Smith, of Erie, PA; his paternal grandmother, Anita J. Smith, of Warren; paternal grandfather, Robert J. Klancher, of WI; a very close uncle, Bradley Smith, of Scandia; and a nephew, Ayden Dean.
Bryan was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Allen J. Smith; and his maternal grandmother, Valerie M. Klancher.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, on Friday, October 31, from 6 - 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the First Lutheran Church, 109 W. Third Ave., Warren, PA, on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. with The Rev. David Blank, pastor, and The Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, associate pastor, officiating
Burial will be in the Warren County Memorial Park with Military Honors.
