Betty B. Bathgate, 84, formerly of Cobham Park Road, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Warren Manor. Betty was born January 22, 1930, in Moshannon, PA, the daughter of the late Doyle K. and Betha M. Schmoke Borger.
Betty was a graduate of Snow Shoe High School and the Indiana State Teachers College. She worked for the Warren County School District, primarily at Irvinedale Elementary School as a second grade teacher, retiring after 37 years. Betty was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on the Executive Board and as a member of the Allen Class and the United Methodist Women. She was a voracious reader, with an eclectic divergence of interests ranging from wildflowers to NASA.
She is survived by one daughter, Joan Bathgate Cooper, and husband, Chuck, of Knoxville, TN; two sons, Keith Bathgate, and wife, Dena, of Murfeesboro, TN, and Kenneth Bathgate, and wife, Cathy, of Cleveland, OH; one sister, Joan Picardi, and husband, Anthony, of Philadelphia, PA; one brother, Stanley Borger, and wife, Geraldine, of Snow Shoe, PA; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death on December 27, 2010, by her husband, Victor Lee Bathgate, whom she married on March 22, 1952; her daughter, Karyn Bathgate Polley; and two sisters, Dorothy Borger and Evelyn Houdeshell.
Friends will be received at the parlors at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Market St., Warren, on Thursday, August 14, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, at which time, a funeral service will be held there, with Rev. Jon Swart, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Warren Library Association, 205 Market St., Warren, PA 16365.
