Obituary

Bernard L. Wingert, 98, of Youngsville, PA, passed away on January 28, 2023, at the Rouse Home. Bernie was born on January 6, 1925, in DuBois, PA, the son of the late Roy and Stella Wingert. He graduated from Brady Township High School, Luthersburg, PA, in 1942. Bernie enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific Fleet from 1942-1946. He was at Tokyo Bay during the surrender of WWII. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1953 with a S.S. from the College of Agriculture. He moved to Warren in 1955 where he began his job as the Warren County Agent. With this job he wrote a column in the Warren Times Observer called Conversational Counseling and Compost and did radio spots for WNAE for thirty years. Upon his retirement he became Co-Administrator of the Watson Memorial Home with his wife for ten years. In 1980 Bernie was awarded The Community Service Award for Warren County and was instrumental in establishing the Warren County Fair. In 2018 he and his wife moved to the Suites at Rouse. He enjoyed hunting and being a part of the Hodge Lodge Camp in Scandia, PA. Bernie liked gardening flowers and vegetables; and sitting by a woodstove fire. He was known for his quick wit, that lasted throughout his life. Most of all, he loved his family. Bernie is survived by his wife, Dorothy W. Wingert, whom he married on June 12, 1954; three daughters: Nancy Wise and husband Russell of Roswell, GA, Susan Hanson and husband William of State College, PA, Jane Strohmeyer and husband Richard of Warren, PA: a sister Jean McGee of Willingboro, NJ; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is survived by 8 nephews. In addition to his parents, Bernard is preceded in death by two brothers Robert and Donald Wingert. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Warren, Warren County Hospice, and/or The Rouse Home.
