I was disheartened to see the obituaries this morning. When I was just a young fellow, in Clarendon, I met Dave at Don Miller's hang out and we became almost instant friends and he was 5 years my senior. He was one of the nicest guys I've ever known and he still holds that position in my mind.

We'd talk for days - not an easy task back then - as I had no sign language knowledge at all but we got through it. Almost nightly, we'd meet at Miller's, sometimes along with his friend Bucky - who's last name escapes me.

Life moved on and I lost contact with Dave but will always remember him and how he let a young guy into his life, however briefly. My condolences to his family - and all who knew him - as I'm sure they're as saddened as I am, knowing he's gone.
