Charles R. Bennett, 97, of Warren, PA. passed away peacefully Monday November 9, 2020 at Rouse Home. Charles was born in Corydon, PA, on January 27,1923 to the Late Leroy and Jessie Manchester Bennett. He served with the US. Army Air Corp. In World War II as a Bombardier Lt. 1st Class, flying in a B - 17 Bomber. He flew 43 missions that earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross, The Air Medal and five Oak Leaf Clusters. In 1950 he was "called back" for the Korean Conflict, where he served in Japan as an air intelligence officer. He finished his service career as a Captain with an EAME Theater Ribbon with 16 Battle Stars, an Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters and a Distinguished Flying Cross with three Overseas Bars and a Korean Service Medal. After completing college at Edinboro University he had a long career in teaching. He started teaching Science at Youngsville, then Fredonia and finally Hilton NY, from which he retired from in 1985. He and his wife Dorothy then returned to Warren. Charles loved golf and was in leagues at Cable Hollow and Blueberry Golf courses. He and his wife of 72 years, Dorothy loved travel both here and in Europe. In addition to his parents Charles is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Fogle Bennett, brother Donald Kirkland Bennett. He is survived by his daughter Ann " Larry " Hendershot and beloved grandson Chad A. DeNeve. He will be greatly missed by friends and family for his caring warm ways and quick wit. Military Honors will be provided by the Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard.
