William F “Bill” Schumann, 93, passed away at sunset on Friday, January 18, 2013 at his home at 1868 Miller Hill Road, Warren Pa.
Bill was born October 18, 1919 in Warren, the son of the late Walter and Josephine Schumann.  Bill graduated from Warren High School in 1937 and served as an enlisted man in the US Army, 1938-1941.  He reenlisted in the US Army in 1941 for the Officer Candidate Program and was subsequently commissioned a 2nd LT, Armor Branch.  After training stateside Bill shipped out to Europe in late summer 1944 and was assigned as a tank platoon leader in the 37th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division.  His battalion commander was LTC Creighton Abrams, who later became General commanding, in Vietnam.
Bill was seriously wounded in action in early December, 1944, just before the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge.  After spending a long time in a hospital in France and later in the US, he was discharged from the army and returned to Warren where he bought a home and raised a family of four sons and three daughters.  He worked for Armour Meat and Sylvania and moved his family to the farm on Miller Hill in 1959.  He retired from Sylvania in 1981. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading Westerns, and especially his family. From the time he retired in 1981 until his wife’s passing, they enjoyed traveling in their RV. Bill was a longtime member of the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, and the Sugar Grove American Legion.
Bill is survived by two sons, Robert Schumann of Miller Hill and James Schumann of Rock Hill, South Carolina; two daughters Mary Ferry and her husband John of Russell, and Cecelia Jones and her husband Michael of Fentonville, NY; a brother Harold, of Branford Fl; and a sister in law, Corky Schumann, of Myrtle Beach, SC. He also leaves 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 1992 by his wife Theresa Hart Schuman, whom he married on August 31, 1941; two sons William, in 1980, and Jack in 1991; a daughter Cathy DeRemer in 2010; a grandson Jimmy Schumann in 1981; and a sister, Joanne Buchanan in 1986; and two brothers, Robert and Walter Schumann.
Friends will be received at the Peterson Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, PA 16365 on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m., and for one hour prior to a Funeral Liturgy to be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Fr. Rich Toohey, pastor, St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Foster Cemetery, Lander, PA.

I was Walter Schumann's stepdaughter and met Bill through Walter. He was a very nice person with a lot of great qualities.
Sorry to hear of your loss and I am sure Bill left you with some wonderful memories. Keep them close to your heart and think of him often. God bless you.

Dear Schumann Family,
We want to extend our sincere sympathy to your entire family. We will miss seeing Mr. Schumann in church on Saturday nights. He always sat right around where we sit each week. I gave him Communion a few weeks ago. Know that you are in our prayers and thoughts.
