Edward L. Silvis, 79, of Warren died Monday, April 9, 2018, at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice House.  Ed was born July 31, 1938, in Kane, PA. He was the son of the late L. Peter LeRoy and Signe (Lundburg) Silvis.

He served in the Army from 1963 to 1965 as an Armor Intel Specialist and earned his Sharpshooter badge.  Upon returning to the area, Ed was employed by Rexnord Industries for many years.  He was a member of Pleasant Community Church.

Ed loved to travel.  He and his wife, Shirley, visited the Panama Canal, Mt. Denali and Mt. Whitney in Alaska, the Hoover Dam, Lake Superior, and numerous European countries.

Ed was an avid bicycler and runner and was a member of the YMCA.

He was also an extremely gentle and generous man who will be greatly missed.  One summer, Ed and Shirley covered the cost for each child who attended the church’s Vacation Bible School to receive a Bible.

Ed is survived by his brother, Kenneth H. Silvis, of Bear Lake, PA; three nephews, Roy, Shawn, and Jeffrey Silvis; as well as his church family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death on April 25, 2016, by his wife, Shirley A. (Dykes) Silvis, whom he married May 26, 1972, at the First Church of the Nazarene, in Warren; and a brother, Larry A. Silvis.

A private burial service will be held at Barnes Cemetery, with Rev. Michael Poindexter, pastor, Pleasant Community Church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution should consider Pleasant Community Church, 673 Pleasant Drive, Warren, PA 16365.

To Ed's family: My deepest Sympathy for the loss of your loved one. I worked with Ed for many years at Rexnord and considered him a dear friend. I was privileged to visit with him a few times when he was a guest at the Rouse Home where he seemed to be very happy. I always enjoyed time with Ed and will miss him. May the Lord Bless you and give you strength for the coming days or sorrow. Blessings in Christ Jesus. Donald Deppen.
